Narcissists have an unending desire for control and power. They want to control the narrative around themโ€”not just people, but also events. They love routine and familiarity because these give them a sense of control over their lives and their image.

Reality, in the form of unpredictable or uncontrollable situations, is a threat to that control. It could be something as simple as a road closure or as significant as losing a source of supply. Any unexpected change to a narcissistโ€™s routine or life that they did not orchestrate is a major threat to their sense of control.

They also become agitated or enraged when others assert their own perspectives or refuse to accept the narcissistโ€™s version of events. Such unpredictable realities are often too much for a narcissist to handle, disrupting their delusions of control and power.
