First, they get really friendly with your friends and family. Many narcissists want to hide you from the world because they do not want to make you official. But this type of malignant narcissist will put you on their social media, introduce you to their family, and force you to introduce them to yours. Once introduced, they will become really friendly with them, winning their hearts by being kind, giving, and even charitable. They’ll get them gifts, plan vacations, and really become a part of that family, suggesting there’s nothing wrong with them. “Oh, they’re open-hearted. Oh, they’re the person everybody dreams of being with. Oh, they’re the perfect partner, the perfect family person.”
But in reality, it is a plan to divide and rule. What do I mean by that? Later on, they turn each family member against you by making them think you’re crazy. When they start devaluing you and covertly abusing you, they make everyone think, “Oh, it’s her fault. It’s his fault. He or she is oversensitive, reacting too much to situations.” And your family members do not even attempt to understand the situation properly. What does that lead to? Isolation and disconnection.
What makes all of that so diabolical and disheartening? Well, they gained your trust by earning the trust of the group you belong to, essentially stealing away your support system. That is the first betrayal. The second betrayal is from the family, from that group of friends who were supposed to believe you, who were supposed to understand you, those people who were supposed to cut that narcissist off from their lives. But what do they do? Intentionally or unintentionally, they take their side.
