This is something that I have struggled with all my life, and sometimes I still do. Your body temperature is either higher than what it is in normal people or slightly lower. I’m not making it up; I can tell you that all my life, people used to shake their hands with me, mostly in cold winter because my hands would be blazing hot, like really warm, and I was like, “Oh, probably I’m too warm-blooded than they are.” So that is what it is. But what I did not know was the temperature fluctuation, the overall disregulation of my HPA axis, or the overall vagal tone, my nervous system was disrupted, and that is what led to excessive heat. A lot of survivors experience the opposite; they feel generally cold in their body no matter how hot it is outside. They have episodes of cold flashes, sometimes mixed with hot flashes. I have had those as well. One experience that I would like to share with you is around 2018 or something. It was during the hot summers of Punjab, which is known for its scorching hot summer. It was 45 degrees Celsius outside. I don’t know what that is in Fahrenheit, and I am wearing so many clothes, covering my body with a couple of blankets, and on top of that, using a hot water bottle. People around me were worried about me because they couldn’t understand how I could tolerate that much and still feel cold. Can you believe people around me were sweating when I was shivering? It’s unbelievable, but I know you will understand it as a survivor of narcissistic abuse. And if you have been through something like this, share your experiences in the comments.
