Narcissistic behaviors are peculiar and disturbing. You’ll often hear that they lashed out at a colleague or they picked a fight over who won the ball game. Sometimes you’ll witness these behaviors, and you’ll see a sense of entitlement all over the narcissist, like the other person deserved it. Narcissists don’t know how to apologize. If they do, they follow it up with a “but,” explaining why it was still the right thing for them to do. It’s usually a pattern that you can’t ignore.
11 Try not to insist on your point of view.
Narcissists can only handle their perspective. They do things based on how they feel and what they get in return. When attacked, the natural instinct is to defend themselves and prove that they were right. Arguing the point may escalate the situation in a very unpleasant way. It’s important to speak up, but try not to get stuck explaining or second-guessing your moves. Be subtle but specific and consistent with what you need. Even so, chances are they will not understand or care about your opinions. Don’t waste your breath. You can tell the narcissist you disagree with their assessment, then move on.
