As soon as you stop serving the narcissist’s needs or challenge their worldview, the devaluation begins. They may criticize you, belittle you, or subtly undermine your confidence. The narcissist doesn’t want a partner—they want someone who will agree with everything they say and cater to their every need. Once they feel that you no longer serve this purpose, they start looking for someone else to replace you, someone who can fulfill their endless craving for admiration and attention.
The narcissist will never acknowledge that they are the problem. In their eyes, they are perfect, and you are the one to blame for everything that goes wrong. Even when the relationship ends, the narcissist plays the victim, slandering you to others and refusing to take responsibility. Their inflated ego protects them from ever admitting fault.
