You weren’t the only one in their web; you weren’t crazy to feel like there were others because there always were. A narcissist thrives on having multiple lives in their grasp, each one manipulated just enough to think they’re special. But those vows you held sacred? To them, they were a strategy, not a sacred covenant—just another layer of control. And yet you escaped. That puts you in rare company in a world spinning with trauma bonds and emotional fog. You found your way out. You untangled the lies. You chose healing. You stopped blaming yourself for their brokenness. That’s strength. That’s wisdom. That’s grace.
As you sit now—maybe with your morning coffee, or out on a walk, or simply breathing in a space that’s finally safe—remember this: while you’re healing, others are still trying to survive, still refreshing their phones, still questioning their worth, still wrapped in the confusion you once knew too well. You were there, but now you’re here, and that matters more than you realize.
Now, as for the narcissist, where do they go from here? Sometimes they go backward, recycling old supply—those who still linger on the edges, worn down and easy to manipulate. Sometimes they enter another toxic relationship; they meet their match, a fellow narcissist, and it becomes a cold war of control. Sometimes they stumble on someone new, fresh and unaware—someone like you used to be—and the cycle starts all over again. But sometimes they find no one, and that’s when it all falls apart. They vanish, ghost the world, retreat to a dingy motel with nothing but the glow of a TV and the deafening noise of their own emptiness. They spiral because now, for once, they’d have to sit with themselves—no one to con, no one to charm, no one to reflect the greatness they fake. Just them and the truth—a mirror they can’t smash, a silence they can’t escape.
And don’t be fooled by the facade, the carefully curated photos, the fake smiles. That’s just the costume; underneath, there’s a soul collapsing. Because the things they lost when they lost you go far beyond what they’ll ever admit: your love, your energy, your loyalty, your family, your strength. You are a fortress, and they no longer have the keys. They’ll keep searching, sure, but they’ll never find you again. You are rare, abundant, whole, and you are healing in ways they never will. Because what you gave freely, they had to steal. What you grew inside yourself, they tried to consume. And what you now protect—your peace, your truth, your freedom—they can never reach again.
