The more involved you stay, the more they feel in control of your life, and that is what they want. To achieve this, they behave in seemingly weird yet strategic ways, keeping you solving their problems to keep hitting that goal post, to keep trying. This is what leads to chronic exhaustion. 1. A Narcissist will Intentionally Keep the House Messy
A narcissist will intentionally keep the house messy and promise to clean it but never do so. You have to chase them, and they dangle this hope that one day they will do it. “Oh, an hour later,” they’ll say. “Why are you being so pushy? Why are you nagging me?” And you know how the list goes on. But here’s the weird thing: they only clean the house or sort out the mess just hours before someone arrives. Let’s say you are expecting a guest, and the narcissist knows this is an opportunity for them to look nice and make it seem like they are a cooperative spouse or a great partner. What will they do? They’ll suddenly get up, have a surge of energy like you’ve never seen before, and clean up. You’ll wonder, why this time? You had to chase them, beg them to organize their room or help with stuff, and they did nothing at all. Now, all of a sudden, it’s all about their image, their fake reputation in other people’s eyes. It’s all about how they are perceived. That’s why they do it at the last minute. You need help, but they do it for themselves, for their image.
