Narcissists can be found just about everywhere—in the home, at school, and in the workplace. They make up approximately 1% of the population in most countries. While 1% may not sound like much, many narcissists occupy leadership roles, such as CEOs, professional leaders, and bosses, which could raise the percentage to as high as 10% in organizational hierarchies. This disorder often explains poor outcomes in business, such as bad decisions, bankruptcy, high turnover, and employee burnout.
Healthy relationships require empathy, good listening skills, and genuine care for others’ needs and expectations. However, these skills are almost entirely absent in narcissists. That’s why staying with a narcissist, especially after they realize you know their true nature, can be dangerous.

Narcissists Don’t Listen
Narcissists rarely, if ever, listen to others. They disregard advice and criticism, believing they are perfect. When challenged, they often manipulate, use, or undermine those around them. Over time, this behavior erodes relationships. Many people—whether employees, family members, friends, or partners—end up leaving them because living with a narcissist becomes unbearable.
