4. Others Being Happy
Narcissists are inherently unhappy and insecure, so they hate to see others happy with their own lives. This can manifest in different ways. When they see others succeeding and reaching personal goals, their insecurity causes them to lash out, sometimes even behind their back. They will go out of their way to try to knock you back down and devalue you. Researchers at New York University found that insecurity is a driving factor behind narcissism, which is the reason they hate to see others happy.
5. Called Out
Narcissists hate to be called out on their lies and may even cut you out of their lives after you call them out. Psychologists at the Iwara Health and Medical Research Institute and School of Psychology did a study with 436 participants who were in relationships with people or had relatives diagnosed with narcissism. They found that one of the top narcissistic traits was an overinflated sense of importance. Narcissists think they’re smarter and superior to everyone else, which includes telling a string of lies about their life. When you correct them on their tall tales, they become angry and will verbally attack you to belittle and criticize your intelligence.
