Remember to deflect when they try to manipulate and gaslight you. When they start messing with your thoughts, beliefs, and emotions, hold on to your truth. Say something like, “Your opinions are yours, and mine are mine. You are entitled to have yours. My reality is not how you are describing it.” Just say it and leave the room. This kills the narcissist’s ego because they want you to react to what they are saying, take it personally, and believe what they want you to believe. Once they make you believe, they get a sense of control, which makes them feel special and powerful. Gaining control over someone’s emotions and psyche gives them a high and a sense of self-importance that they otherwise lack. So when they try to gaslight and manipulate you, recognize the emotions it elicits in you, acknowledge them, clearly say no, and create distance by pointing out the difference right in front of them. Say to their face that what they believe is not your truth, and that you are entitled to believe what you want, which is what matters the most.
3 Create Organization in Your Life:
Narcissists hate organization. By definition, we are talking about a disorder here, so they are struggling with internal chaos, which is why they want their external environments to be chaotic as well. They will try to create as much disorganization as possible, emotionally or otherwise. You have to counteract this by creating organization in your life. If they want you to believe that your life is supposed to be a mess, take a stand for yourself and get things together. Get that job you have been looking for, sort out your education, or it could be as simple as just organizing things around the house. Prove them wrong. They don’t like stability; create that stability and show them that you are not going to recreate the internal chaos they want to manifest in their environments. The moment you create this organization, it almost gives them a narcissistic injury big enough to make them take a step back and realize they can’t control you anymore because you have recognized your true power. Your life is in your hands, and they can’t control it. In fact, nobody can.
