The problem did not stop there; he began stealing money from me and was a heavy gaslighter. He blamed my struggles on evil spirits, claiming they were the cause of my issues. I had shared some spiritual experiences with him from my childhood, and he weaponized that information against me. I became convinced that perhaps I was making everything up or that I never had that money to begin with. You know how it is with a narcissist; they can make you believe you’re the crazy one.
He grew increasingly jealous of me—jealous of who I was and what I had to offer. I worked hard and studied diligently, which he did not want to see because he himself was a failure, driven by instant gratification. As time passed, his intentions became clear: to bring me down and destroy my mental health. Unfortunately, that began to happen when I signed the lease with him.
Mental Torture and Health Anxiety
I did not realize I was signing up for a year full of health anxiety. The mental torture, daily fights, and chronic anxiety made it so difficult for me that there came a point when I wanted to end it all. I just wanted to escape, as my body was showing psychosomatic symptoms, screaming that I was being tortured. Yet, I was psychologically convinced that I was the problem. He lectured me for hours about being a failure and not knowing how to maintain relationships, telling me I was too sensitive and exaggerating things.
It impacted me deeply because I was already prone to gaslighting, having been raised in such an environment. Eventually, my health anxiety took a toll. I had to study for 12 tough engineering subjects, all mathematics and calculations, and I knew I had to pay attention or I wouldn’t make it. That’s exactly what he wanted—to see me give up. I ended up running from one hospital to another, trying to understand what was happening with my body. Doctors dismissed my concerns, saying, “It’s all in your head,” and one even put me on antidepressants that worsened my situation.
