This one can be really difficult for some of us to believe, but they are dead inside. A narcissist may never want to admit it, but if they were to tell the truth, they would say: “I am dead inside. I don’t feel joy. I don’t feel happiness. I don’t feel sadness either. The only things I feel are fear and shame, and all of that gets converted into anger because anger makes me feel in control. I am numb. I am a walking, living, breathing zombie. Emotionally, I’m gone. What you see is a body that appears to be alive, but it’s a shell. I left this body a long time ago. The day I chose this path, I sacrificed my true self on the altar of my false self. To appear powerful, I had to do something big, and that’s what I did. I sacrificed my authenticity and became this inauthentic version of myself.”
So, there is no one home. Who will you save? I know this may bring up a lot of grief for those trying to navigate the situation, but that’s the truth. There is no one home. There is no one you can revive. There is nothing you can do about it. The only thing you can do is process the grief, accept it as it is, and let it go. You didn’t cause it. It’s not your responsibility to fix it. No matter what you feel or believe, no matter how big of an empath or fixer you are, you won’t be able to do anything about it.
