Equality is poison to the narcissist. They may smile at the idea of fairness in public; they may talk about community. They may pretend to believe in equal treatment. But the moment you treat them just like everybody else, the mask slips.
Take a communal event, for example, where everyone is expected to sit together, eat the same food, and be treated as one. The narcissist may play along for a moment. But if they do not receive special treatment, if they are not given a guest-of-honor seat, or if you do not flatter them or single them out, the rage begins to brew. They will take note, remember, and seek revenge because, in their mind, they are not just one among many. They are better, speedier, and the exception.
What ordinary people accept—the humility of being just one more human in the crowd—is intolerable for them. They do not want to share space; they want to dominate it. This is why their relationships fail. Their friendships crumble, and their family ties are toxic. Equality reminds them they are not gods. It shatters their fantasy of superiority. They will sabotage any environment where true equality is practiced because their ego cannot coexist with fairness.
