Narcissists avoid those who are self-assured and confident because they want to tear them down to feel more important. Being confident in who you are is an effective way to make a narcissist suffer. They explode with rage when their sense of superiority is threatened. By believing in yourself, you become less vulnerable to their traps, preventing them from causing you harm.
9. Don’t Give Them Any Attention
Completely disregarding narcissists is the way to go. They thrive on attention and crave being the center of everything. It’s tempting to engage them in conversation just to keep them at bay, but this only encourages their behavior. Instead, ignore them outright and focus your attention on yourself. Narcissists have a short attention span, so if they perceive they are not making headway with you, they will move on to someone else.
10. Hold Your Standards
Since narcissists don’t care about your views, it’s critical to be explicit about your limits and maintain them. Don’t allow the narcissist to manipulate you or ask you to do things you don’t want to do. If they persist, it’s time to take action. Disregard the person or the discussion. Don’t let them make you feel bad for upholding your boundaries. Continue to protect your standards, refuse, and cause them discomfort.
