The Dying Narcissist has been my focus lately, and today I want to talk about some of their final words. What are Narcissists likely to discuss in their final days? What statements are they likely to make? Depending on where the Narcissist was or is in their life, their statements can vary. Things like their success, age, reach of power, etc., can all affect their final words.
As I touched on in last week’s article, it is very unlikely for them to do a 180-degree turn and become genuinely remorseful or pleasant. Fear will be their default mode, as the Narcissist is devoid of peace. They will use their final moments to cause further pain and confusion. Therefore, their final words will most likely reflect their deeply ingrained patterns of self-centeredness and a need for control. Their final words will align with their desire to maintain their self-image or protect their fragile ego, even in their last moments.
One of the first popular phrases would be, “I forgive you!” This statement clearly implies that you have wronged the Narcissist and that, in the goodness of their heart, they want you to know that you are forgiven. This statement is not only hypocritical and a lie, but it also highlights their lack of accountability and propensity to shift blame. They would never ask for forgiveness, as it would imply that they are the ones in the wrong. So, even to the very end, they continue to play the victim while everyone else is the problem.
Apart from handing out forgiveness, they will make other blame-shifting statements. Someone else or something else would be the cause of their current dilemma, but not them. They will convince themselves that it is someone else’s fault, and they will ensure that person knows it is their fault for why they are dying or in whatever state they find themselves.
