The only thing a narcissist wants more than anything from you is not your money, looks, or status. People always assume that narcissists are merely hunting for a free place to live, a trophy to show off to their friends, or someone to pay their bills. Yes, they will gladly take all of those things, but those are just side benefits. If you stripped all of that away—if you had absolutely zero dollars in your bank account and no status to offer—they would still obsess over trapping you.
Why? Because they are completely starving for the one invisible thing they cannot create themselves: your raw, pulsating energy. You are like the sun; you naturally generate your own warmth, empathy, and bright energy from the inside out. But a narcissist is a black hole. They’re a collapsed dead star with absolutely nothing inside. A black hole does not want to sit next to the sun and just enjoy the warm weather; its only physical purpose is to violently tear the sun apart and swallow its light. When they provoke you into crying, arguing, or defending yourself, they’re not looking for a solution. They’re literally feeding on your exhaustion. This is why they are called energy vampires.

Can you not? You generate your own electricity. A narcissist, however, is completely broken on the inside. Their internal generator was destroyed a long time ago. They’re like a dead car sitting on the side of the highway; they cannot hold a charge and cannot start their own engine.
So they stand by the side of the road with jumper cables, waiting for a fully charged person like you to drive by. When they love-bomb you at the beginning of the relationship, they’re simply attaching those jumper cables directly to your chest. They desperately need your excitement, your passion, and your deep capacity to love just to feel alive. They do not actually love you; they love the electricity you provide.
