Now, consider the life of a country dog with no fence. If you go outside to find that dog, you might find it lounging on the porch. The country dog realizes it has total freedom but prefers to stick around because it enjoys the companionship. This dog can be loyal and live in a relaxed manner because it is being true to itself.
We are more advanced than dogs, and we can acknowledge that if you live inside someone else’s mold, it will only generate agitation and a desire to rebel. So, let’s permit you to find your home base, be who you are, and live according to what you believe is best. You are free.
That has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? And there’s a complementary idea: you can be competent, responsible, and capable. What would that look like? Even though the narcissist may resist the notion of freedom, the bottom line is that, like it or not, that is your truth. As a free person, how do you want to manage that?
