When dealing with a narcissist, one thing becomes clear: they never truly leave. The rejection stage, where it seems like they’ve cut ties and moved on, is nothing more than an illusion. At the moment, you may no longer serve the narcissist’s goals or provide the attention they crave, but they will always find a way to come back into your life.
The Return of the Narcissist
A narcissist is consumed by pride and arrogance. When they return, they do so in a way that makes it appear as though it was never their decision to come back. They might call or text you, show up at places where they know you’ll be, and act as if you were the one who reached out first. This tactic allows them to maintain the illusion of control, forcing you to believe that their reappearance in your life was entirely coincidental or, worse, initiated by you.
Despite needing your attention, a narcissist will pretend they don’t. They manipulate you into thinking you need them more than they need you. This charade is the reason the narcissist never really leaves—they are always lurking, observing you, waiting for the perfect moment to reinsert themselves into your life.
