Since narcissists prey on those they perceive as weaker, they will persist until they get what they want or need. It’s almost as if a switch flips in a narcissist’s mind, and they sense vulnerability. From that point on, it’s virtually game over.
Some narcissists enjoy the pursuit more than the result, so they will stop at nothing to achieve their desires. Their false sense of superiority convinces them they deserve and can accomplish anything they set their minds to. Narcissists continually desire the unattainable.
So, why might a rejected narcissist never return? And why is this good? It doesn’t matter whether you ended the relationship or they did. Certain circumstances can drive them away forever or make it hard for them to approach you again.
Make a U-Turn
Although it’s not always the case, narcissists sometimes make a U-turn and come back into your life. While uncommon, narcissists may choose to withdraw and not return for a long time. Whether or not they return depends on the relationship status they once had with you—whether as a love partner, friend, or family member. Whoever the narcissist is, the decision to let them back into your life is entirely yours.
Narcissists, particularly covert ones, tend to avoid conflicts at all costs. They avoid people who are aware of their true nature and are not afraid to call them out. Labeling someone a narcissist isn’t the goal; the key is pointing out their lies and manipulations.
When a narcissist is confronted about their deceitful or dishonest behavior, they often become defensive and hostile. They will avoid being seen with anyone who threatens their carefully constructed identity. If someone exposes their true self, the narcissist knows it’s game over.
