Today, I want to talk about how the narcissist knows they have lost you. How do they know when someone will be of no use to them? How do they weed out the good sources of supply from the bad ones?
Narcissists love having people around them, but every so often, they lose out on one or two individuals they cannot manipulate; to the point where they realize that you are one of those who got away or who they just cannot have again.
The best way to get away from a narcissist is not to be a source of any kind of narcissistic supply for them. We know that narcissists are quick to discard people when there is nothing more to gain. They lose interest fast, as they do not waste time with those who are not interesting to them or who are not interested in them. They are very careful with their time and resources, and if you are not providing the fuel to keep them going, you become a liability, and the narcissist simply does not want you around anymore.
Narcissists are all about control, and they gain control by manipulating our emotions. They receive large amounts of narcissistic supply when they pull the strings and put you on an emotional rollercoaster. It makes them feel powerful when they can make you laugh, cry, scream, feel sad, guilty, and depressed. Above all, they relish the ability to manipulate you into keeping them in your life. This is what allows them to continue playing with you.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to control. Narcissists need to control you, mainly through messing with your emotions. They seem to know what to say and how to act to trigger a response. But we need to realize that the key lies in how we react to the narcissist. As long as they know they can influence you, push your buttons, or elicit a reaction, they believe they have you right where they want you.
