In the end, narcissists may regret the consequences of their actions, but rarely the actions themselves. They may miss the comfort of what you gave them, but not the pain they caused you. They may feel frustrated that their life didn’t unfold the way they envisioned, but they will likely blame everyone else for that outcome. True regret—the kind that leads to reflection, growth, and a desire to repair what was broken—is something that remains largely out of reach for most narcissists.
If you’ve spent years hoping for that moment of clarity, of acknowledgment, of an apology that never comes, it may be time to shift your focus. Their regret, or lack thereof, is not your responsibility. What matters now is not whether they look back with sorrow—but whether you can move forward in peace.
