Such a narcissist may also be uninterested in romance. You won’t find them going after people like a typical narcissist would to acquire supply. Instead, their books, academics, and knowledge sustain their narcissistic grandiose self. Their grandiosity is so extreme that they see everyone else as a fool. They think, “Oh, come on, what are you even talking about? This person is nothing before me. I know so much. I know everything.” But the reality is they know nothing about themselves and do not want to know. If their credentials, degrees, and knowledge were taken away, a shell would be left behind since this person has no soul.
Personal Story: Encounter with an Academic Narcissist
How do I know about this type of narcissist? Well, I have a story to share. I have talked about my parents, narcissistic friends, and coworkers, but not my narcissistic classmates. Some may think children cannot be narcissistic, but they can be, and they can be bullies.
I had to deal with one such bully in my childhood. I had no peace, neither at home nor at school. Both were different rooms of the same hell. An academic narcissist joined our class in the sixth or seventh grade. To this day, I remember the first time he entered the classroom, full of arrogance. The teacher was teaching us about different states in India and their capital cities. Nobody knew many of them, which was expected. But he walked in with bulging eyes and sat right in front of the teacher, answering every question correctly. Everyone was shocked and clapped for him. That was the first impression he created.
