7 Ordinary Everyday Things a Narcissist Cannot Stand

Narcissists are dopamine chasers. They cannot stand the mundane: ordinary life, the silence, the repetition, the moments of nothingness. It’s all unbearable for them. They need constant stimulation, constant noise, and constant distraction. Because the moment silence falls, shame creeps in. Their inner voices rise, and the emptiness catches up.

So, what do they do? They fill every gap with chaos, video games, gossip, endless TV, noise—arguments, basically anything to keep the silence away. And when that is not enough, they manufacture drama. They stir conflict out of thin air just to feel alive. I remember Sundays in my childhood when everything seemed calm. My father would suddenly start pulling books out of cupboards, criticizing, yelling about why something was put there, picking at tiny flaws just to create unrest. My mother would fake panic attacks, cry suddenly, making sure the whole house revolved around her instead of resting. That’s what boredom does to them. It terrifies them.

Where we see rest, narcissists see a void. Where we see stillness, they feel exposed. And so they attack. They need stimulation like you need oxygen. And when life does not provide it, they manufacture their own storms.
