6 Feelings You Must Never Let a Narcissist See

Number six: confusion. Confusion is the doorway through which narcissists enter your mind. It is the emotion they study the closest, the one they respond to the fastest, and the one they weaponize with the most precision. I’m referring to cognitive dissonance as well. When a narcissist senses confusion in you, they do not feel empathy; they feel opportunity. Confusion tells them your internal compass is spinning. There is nothing a narcissist loves more than a heart without direction.

To a narcissist, your cognitive dissonance is a signal—a moment when you lose your footing just long enough for them to rewrite the entire situation in their favor. When they notice you are confused, what do they do? They start controlling the narrative at lightning speed. They talk faster, deny more firmly, switch topics, distort facts, and overwhelm you with contradictions until you forget what you were questioning in the first place. Confusion is how they erase your reality and install their own.

When a narcissist sees cognitive dissonance and confusion in your eyes, they convince themselves that you need them to tell you what is real. Once they believe this, they start tightening their control over your perception because a confused person does not trust themselves, and someone who does not trust themselves becomes dependent on the person who claims to have the answers. That is the moment the narcissist’s power becomes absolute, when they think they have gained maximum control over you.
