Hi everyone! Narcissists are intelligent and manipulative individuals. They’ll do whatever they like to you and expect you to accept it in good faith. They don’t care about your feelings; all they’re after is their self-gratification. However, when you recognize their games and call them out, it triggers shame and defensiveness. In their attempt to defend themselves, several things can happen.
1. Rage
Calling out a narcissist often provokes rage. When confronted, narcissists feel exposed and ashamed because they know you’ve seen through their facade. To protect their ego, they retaliate with anger, which can range from passive-aggressive remarks to outright hostility. This reaction isn’t necessarily about harming you directly—it’s their way of discrediting your claims and maintaining control.
2. Gaslighting
Another common tactic is gaslighting. Narcissists try to twist reality to make you doubt your own perceptions. They might manipulate the evidence you’ve presented against them to make it seem invalid or even turn it against you. The best way to counter this is to stay calm, remain confident in your truth, and present your evidence clearly.
