The first move they make is filing a false police report against you. Sometimes it may be a kidnapping report, claiming, “Oh, he or she ran away with my kids. They kidnapped my kids without my permission.” Other times, it’s a missing person report, saying, “I don’t know where this person is. I’m concerned they might have been abducted.” This could get you into a lot of trouble because they put you on the radar—tracking you through your SIM cards, phone, IMEI numbers, passport, and more. Everything is digital, and they can trace you very easily, even pinpointing your location.
The narcissist doesn’t tell the truth. The truth is you’re escaping an abuser and are terrified for your life, trying to give yourself and your children a chance. However, many police and agencies, though not all, don’t understand the subtlety and seriousness of the situation. Unfortunately, many times, you’re taken back to them like a prisoner.
So, what can you do to prepare for this? You need to inform the police, obtain an order of protection, or a restraining order. If you can’t get help from the police or any legal agency, be very cautious—leave your digital devices behind, including your phone and SIM card. Avoid using any SIM registered under your name. Consider going ‘ghost,’ making yourself difficult to track, and taking extreme caution.
