The Importance of Validation:
Narcissistic, toxic individuals often love when you chase after them, especially after a breakup or even a fake breakup. They thrive on the validation it gives them. When you beg, plead, or apologize—sometimes even for things they did to you—they feel justified in their actions. This cycle allows them to clear their conscience and get rid of any shame that might have crept in.
What Happens When You Don’t Chase Them?
But what happens if you don’t chase them? What if, instead of running after them when they fake a breakup or threaten to leave, you just let them go? Narcissists expect you to reach out, to blow up their phone with calls and texts. They anticipate your apologies, and when that doesn’t happen, it throws them off balance. They might start by checking their phone constantly, making sure their volume is on, waiting for your message that never comes.
