One of the most disturbing patterns is their use of sleep deprivation. When you try to sleep, the narcissist suddenly becomes a whirlwind of activity. Kitchen cabinets slam shut with unnecessary force, doors bang against frames, and they clear their throats repeatedly and loudly. Every movement seems calculated to create maximum disturbance. This tactic is designed to keep you off balance and exhausted, making it easier to control you.
Music as a Weapon
Music becomes another weapon in their noise arsenal. Their favorite songs blast at volumes that would make a concerned neighbor jealous. They sing off-key and at full volume, enjoying the disruption it causes. The timing of their music often coincides with moments when you need quiet or concentration.
Public Disturbances and Car Chaos
In public spaces, their noisiness takes on different forms. While they may not be able to blast music in an airport, they create disturbances through loud phone conversations, ensuring everyone within a 50-foot radius hears their discussion. They laugh too loudly at their own jokes, and their body language becomes expansive and disruptive, taking up more space than necessary.
When driving with a narcissist, you endure a constant stream of honking, yelling at other drivers, and cursing at anyone who dares to share the road. What should be a simple, peaceful journey becomes an exhausting ordeal of noise and aggression.
Verbal Communication and Noise Control
Their verbal communication follows the same pattern. They do not speak; they broadcast. Conversations occur at a volume designed to include unwilling participants. Phone calls become public performances, with every detail of their day shared at maximum volume. They interrupt others mid-sentence, talk over people, and dominate discussions with their loud presence.
