If you stop reacting to the narcissist, they become frustrated. It drives them crazy when you act like a blank canvas in their presence. Narcissists can’t operate around people they can’t deceive or control. When they lose that sense of control, they feel uncomfortable, and anyone who makes a narcissist uncomfortable becomes a threat that needs to be eliminated.
Sometimes, the narcissist moves on themselves, removing themselves from the situation. But even though they may not seek revenge right away, they never forget or forgive. If the opportunity presents itself in the future to hurt you, they will. In other cases, they will actively work to eliminate you because of the narcissistic injury you’ve caused. It depends on the narcissist and how much of an offense they believe you’ve committed. Narcissists choose which battles they want to fight now and which ones they can save for later.
Narcissists are usually more offended by people they once controlled but now cannot than by those they never had a chance to control. They hate feeling like they’ve lost their grip.
