Well, mainly for narcissistic supply, of course. The narcissist wouldn’t even stay for one more minute if they didn’t have the thing with him. They can’t continue their life without Narcissistic Supply, whether it is praise and affection, the power over others, or hurting other people.
1. Narcissists Know No Boundaries
Narcissists are notorious for disregarding the boundaries of others. While they have a strong sense of self-preservation and make their own boundaries clear, they completely disregard yours. You can test this by setting firm boundaries and clearly communicating their importance. A narcissist will struggle to respect or obey them, and if you remain steadfast, they may leave, only to hope that you’ll “learn your lesson” and return to them on their terms.
As long as they can continue to exploit you, a narcissist sees no reason to move on. If you cannot refuse them or set strict boundaries, they will continue to manipulate you for their gain.
