No matter how big or clever a narcissist’s mind game may be, you can always win if you know how to fight strategically. They want you to believe they’re the puppet master and that you have zero chance of winning—whether it’s bringing them down, defeating them, or even keeping them at arm’s length.
But that’s not true. They are driven by your behaviors. If you know what buttons to push, what to do, and what not to do, you’ll always be in a position of power.
Move 1: Selective Exposure of Information
Keep your cards close to your chest. You can’t tell them what you’re up to, what you’re planning, or how you intend to expose them. Avoid sharing your ideas on social media or tagging places and people who might inadvertently reveal your plans.
You might want to live a life of freedom, but in this situation, you’re dealing with vulture eyes constantly trying to gather information to bring you down. This isn’t paranoia—it’s your reality.
Instead, selectively expose only bits and pieces of information that don’t reveal your overall strategy. Keeping them in a state of anxiety will lead them to make mistakes. Confrontation isn’t necessary; let your actions speak louder than words.
Preserve your happiness without showcasing it to the world, especially if it’s motivated by a desire to show the narcissist you’ve moved on. They’ll interpret that as a sign you’re still impacted by their presence. Instead, be declarative and succinct, such as, “I’m not ready to visit any family members this holiday season.”
