Let’s talk about an extraordinary type of narcissist known as the academic narcissist. This type has a computer-like mind, which tends to know it all. They have high IQ levels and appear logical about things. However, emotionally, they are dead.
Characteristics of Academic Narcissists
How do they attain supply? They attain supply by trying to be number one, the top dog in their category. They get a lot of degrees and secure high grades in the subjects they target. They must be the first in line to get validation, appreciation, and recognition for their work.
Don’t get me wrong. Some overachievers are trauma survivors and achieve a lot to find some self-worth, but they are not like narcissists. They are empathetic. This type of narcissist is deeply insecure, a bully, and only knows how to live through their grandiosity via academic brilliance. You usually find this type of narcissist in schools, colleges, and universities—places where academic skills garner recognition. They do not care about anyone else except themselves.
They do their work so that their brains are worshipped, shocking others and making them think, “Wow, you solved that complex problem. You have mega brains. How can you think differently?” That is what they want to hear, and that is why they may study day and night, sacrificing everything.
