A narcissist acts as a gatekeeper for the family’s darkness. They’re not just a difficult person; they function like an evil spirit whose sole purpose is to ensure that the cycle of abuse, shame, and suffering continues into the next generation. They’re the guardians of the curse. And then there is you: you’re the unchosen child. To the narcissist, you’re the black sheep, the scapegoat, and the problem. However, in reality, you were unchosen because you posed a threat to the status quo. You were chosen by a higher purpose to be the one who breaks the cycle. You’re the one with the strength to say, “It ends with me.” A narcissistic parent senses your light and recognizes you as a threat to their empire of lies. Obviously, they know that if you wake up, the game is over. So, they double down. They do not just treat you poorly; they engage in a targeted campaign to keep you stuck, suffering, and paralyzed. They want to break your spirit before you realize you have the power to break the cycle.
Today, we are exposing the tactical warfare they use to keep you from your purpose. These are the seven cruel things a narcissist does to the unchosen child. Let’s start with number one.
Sabotaging Self-Belief: The Narcissist’s First Tactic
They sabotage your self-belief to make you fear your own power. The narcissist sees your potential long before you do. They see your resilience, intelligence, and your ability to see through their BS. Instead of nurturing that, they treat your power like a threat that needs to be neutralized. They do not just tell you that you are not good enough; they actively plant seeds of doubt in every move you make. If you show talent, they mock it. If you show ambition, they call it arrogance. They want you to associate your strength with pain and believe that if you ever try to stand tall, you will be cut down. By making you fear your own power, they ensure you stay small enough to remain under their thumb. They are trying to convince the lion that it is a mouse so it never tries to break out of the cage.
Which brings us to number two.
