2. Criticism
Have you ever criticized a narcissist? If so, you have probably felt the sting of their backlash. They hate any form of criticism because it leaves them feeling like they’re looked down on, even if your critical opinions were minor, like not liking the design of their shirt or disagreeing on a movie. They cannot handle criticism. Robert S. Horton from the Department of Psychology at Wabash College found that their anger is more intense when they feel that the person criticizing them holds a higher status than they do. They always feel a need to be reassured that they are the smartest, best looking, and most talented of everyone. So when you criticize a narcissist, they will become angry.
3. Losing Control
Losing control is one of the biggest things that narcissists hate. They need to control everything, from the topic of conversation to your life choices. Have you ever been in a relationship or had a friend or family member who was always correcting your decisions and telling you how to feel and act? These narcissists want to control every aspect of your life, all under the guise of just giving their opinion. They don’t stop until they’re in full control over you. A paper by Sarah Barkley and psychologist Dr. Vera Sarali explained that a narcissist cannot accept when they lose domination over your life and are no longer in control of your emotions. The more you resist, the angrier they become, as they have to be in control and hate to lose it.
