Reason 1: Sadistic Supply from Your Self-Doubt
Narcissists get sadistic pleasure from seeing you question yourself. It gives them immense satisfaction when they see you behaving in ways that don’t align with your true personality, or when they watch you act out of character. If you get angry at them over some petty issue and yell, scream, or say something nasty that you usually wouldn’t, of course, you’ll feel guilty, embarrassed, and ashamed of your actions. Naturally, you’ll try to fix the situation by being better or by taking responsibility for things you may not have even said or done. That’s exactly what they want. They want you to remember the incident from where you reacted, not from the time they started acting abusively.
