10 Problems Only Sociopaths Have

Number 8: They are often romanticized or vilified for the wrong reasons.

In the media, portrayals of sociopaths like Patrick Bateman from the movie American Psycho can get romanticized by the viewers. This is in large part because normal human beings can show frustration at trying to make everything in their lives work, and wish that they could simply not care about bills, groceries, and that sort of thing. The danger here is romanticizing what is a really hard condition to live with, and believing that it gives you superpowers or something. Being a sociopath, as you can probably tell already, comes with a very unique set of challenges, and a guarantee that you will never experience life in the same way as others. When people with sociopathic tendencies confide in their friends about their condition, they are often met with either fear or intense interest. It can be hard for these individuals not to feel like they are not being treated like human beings as a result.

Number 7: They often struggle with uncontrollable outbursts of rage.

Compared to the average emotional intelligence of an adult, the sociopath comes in far beneath the norm. These individuals can have a hard time understanding wit, sarcasm, or even honest displays of affection or emotion. This can obviously create difficulties for them, but it is the inability to understand emotion and what to do with it that can turn things from sad to dangerous. Sociopaths have a hard time dealing with feelings of rejection, failure, and other things that the average person deals with on a semi-regular basis. When a sociopath experiences these feelings, they don’t really know what to do, and tend to let their rage take over in a very dangerous way. Because they are not fully in control of themselves at that moment, and because they don’t value others that well, they may not hold back, creating a scene or worse, injuring someone else in the process.

Number 6: It is an uphill battle not to appear arrogant.

Sociopaths are usually very sure of themselves, and that confidence can sometimes push them into career opportunities that most of us would marvel at. Most of the time, though, either because of their inability to understand others or their over-confidence, they can simply come off as arrogant. Sociopaths are going to act the same whether they run the world or live very modestly, and that can often be off-putting to others in their life. When people see a person with a lot of confidence, they can sometimes become insecure about their own situation, and the sociopath can ironically serve as a mirror to that person’s own insecurities.
